Panel 3-3 The Relationship between Taoist Natural Fasting Rituals and Lingbao Fasting Rituals of the Six Dynasties /Cheng Tsan-Shan

This article analyzes the ritual content and function of the Natural Chao and Natural Fasting Rituals based on the Dunhuang manuscript ‘Lingbao ziran zhaiyi’, and explains their possible origins and significance.
The article will also cover various important fasting rituals of the Six Dynasties, such as the Jinlu Fast, the Huanglu Fast, the Mingzhen Fast, and the Tutan Fast, and conduct a series of correlation analyses between the classics, myths and rituals with Taoist classics from the late Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Liu Song Dynasty, with the aim of clarifying many issues in the development of early Taoist rituals.
